Are scientific theories tested every so often?

Even the most basic accepted tenets of scientific theory are constantly being tested; for one thing, they are tested in classrooms to help students learn the scientific method. Also, experiments that set out to answer a new question must build upon a framework of what is already known, which often involves refining, questioning and reworking established theory.
