The United States is home to over 600,000 school buses nationwide. More than 99% of these buses run on diesel engines. It was not always this way, as the first diesel school buses were manufactured in the early 1980’s. By the middle of the 1990’s almost all school buses were using diesel, and that is how it remains today.
