Are the sand burms a good way to keep the oil from reaching the coastline?

    Theoretically, yes. There were some concerns that the burms in Louisiana, which transfer sand from the Chandeleur Islands to the coast, could damage the islands themselves. The islands form a natural defense against storm surges and hurricanes.
