Are the recent food safety scares (E. coli, salmonella) real concerns in nature or are they happening because there are too many people crowding fragile ag lands?

Often times bacteria brake outs are caused by bad farming processes. When bacteria’s grow on plants they can be from animals breaking into the farm land and defecating on the crops, or where crops are store or transported there can be bacteria present that then spreads to the food. There outbreaks are not caused by people living near farmlands. It is important to thoroughly wash food, and thorough cooking can kill bacteria (although you should not cook food that is knowingly contaminated).
