Right now at least, they are not affected by budget cuts since all of their money comes from private sources. A lot of elite private schools are much better than public schools, but not all, so you can’t really say that all private schools are better for learning than public schools. You need to research specific ones you’re interested in in your area.
There really is no definite answer to this question, but there are ways to find out which option is best for your family. Every state in the country has its own set of learning standards for core subjects at each grade level by which all public schools must abide. However, some public schools perform far lower than others in standardized testing, which likely results from the vast differences in resources of districts, quality of teachers, socioeconomic status, and even parental support. Private schools, which generally set their own high standards, are not held accountable by the state. Depending on where you live, there may be stellar public schools, but in areas where the schools do not have a history of high performance (indicated by their scores), you may choose to look into private alternatives. Be wary, though, as private schools are not necessarily synonymous with excellence. Visit your state’s department of education web site and familiarize yourself with the ranks and values of its public schools.
