The US Fish & Wildlife Service announced in December that the black-tailed prairie dog does not need to be on the endangered species list. There is an estimated population of 24 million in the United States. Many people disagree with this ruling, since much of their natural habitat has been cultivated.
Some types of them seem to be endangered – for example the “BLACK-TAILED PRAIRIE DOG ” – http://www.fws.gov/mountain%2Dprairie/species/mammals/btprairiedog/
Frankly, I feel all living beings except for the humans + what they grow for their selfish motives (cattle, poultry) etc.. are endangered. Even good humans who try to be compassionate to others seem to be endangered these days 🙁
