Are polyacrylate crystals harmful to babies?

Sodium polyacrylate crystals, found in diapers, help increase a diaper’s absorbency limit.  When wet, the crystals turn into gel, and if the gel leaks it could come into contact with a baby’s skin.  However, to date, there are no studies that indicate whether sodium polyacrylate is dangerous to children when absorbed through the skin.
