The fear with plastic is that BPA, a chemical endocrine disrupter, as well as other chemicals in plastic, can leak into food when the plastic is heated. So far, the FDA says studies examining the effects of BPA and plastics leaching toxins have been inconclusive, but if you don’t want to risk it, go with glass. In addition to eliminating concerns about BPA, glass tupperware stays cleaner (no tomato stains), is always microwavable, and is long lasting. Glass is also easier to make and 100% recyclable, while plastic polymers lose quality when recycled, and are generally turned into unrecycable textiles. The disadvantages of glass are, of course, breakability, and decreased portability (because glass tupperware is heavier).
