There has been serious deforestation in the Philippines, and timber smuggling has been a dangerous practice. Although the government has attempted to stop these actions, it has been largely unsuccessful. Biodiverisity is greatly threatened, and only approximately 5% of Filipino land is being protected, one way or another. There are definitely ecologists and conservationists that study the area and attempt to help. There is an Environmental Management Bureau that attempts to manage natural resources.
