As a documentary it will hopefully be more effective than, say, An Inconvenient Truth, at getting people to care about the environment if it’s not already a concern. It engages people in a more emotional way, telling the stories of individual people and using the post-apocalyptic science fiction tropes found in a lot of popular culture to get viewers engaged in and interested in the story. I think using these more creative, narrative-oriented forms rather than just a dry recitation of facts might very well be a more effective way of spreading some awareness about very important issues.
