Are pellet stoves more eco friendly than regular wood stoves?

Yes, pellet stoves are more efficient than wood stoves and can use tree parts and wood scraps that a log-burning stove cannot. This means that they can get more from the same tree than a wood stove can. Pellet stoves can use wood chips, saw dust saplings, whereas these cannot be put in a regular wood stove.

What makes pellet stoves more efficient is that the wood they use has a lower water content (about 5% compared to 20% for wood stove logs), meaning that the stove takes less time burning the steam off and is faster to start actually burning the wood.
