Osprey numbers are up over the last couple decades, but they still are not out of danger. In many parts of the United States their numbers still remain stagnant and environmental factors prove to be hazardous to their survival.

Except for Antarctica, ospreys are found on all the other continents. They will often build their nests on channel markers and telephone poles. Preservationists also create artificial nesting platforms where they are working to re-establish osprey populations.
