According to an ABC.com article, the “gas (nitrogen trifluoride) widely used in the manufacture of flat screen TVs is estimated to be 17,000 times as powerful as carbon dioxide.” So LCD and Plasma TVs do produce a large amount of emissions into the atmosphere, but it has yet to be determined how much of an effect the TVs are actually having on the atmosphere.
