Cars already drive themselves, Google has had them driving around Las Vegas for a while now.

Perhaps in the future, large GPS networks that link directly into a vehicle’s on board computer, and will communicate the vehicle’s location and the best route to get to a destination. Then another part of the computer will have active gauges for speed and direction of steering while on the road. It could work much the same way as the cars did in the film “I, Robot” in which cars drove themselves more or less at high speeds without fear of crashing. Automated driving may still be a ways off, as most auto manufactures are focusing on fuel efficiency and new ways of powering their cars with alternative fuels.
