Are MP3 players better for the environment than CD players?

Since MP3 players are smaller, require fewer materials to manufacture, use less energy, and don’t use CDs, which also require materials and energy to manufacture, I would say that MP3 players are more green if you do not already own a bunch of CDs and a working CD player. If you already own the CDs, you might as well use them or just keep playing them on your computer when you happen to be sitting there instead of turning on a second device. There is something to be said for having a complete album. An album which has songs in the order that the musician picked can express more depth of emotion than a bunch of individual songs randomly stuck together, which is what you might end up doing if you have an MP3 player unless it has a special function for keeping albums together when they are played.
