Are mountain lions a threatened species?

    This is the kind of question where Wikipedia is good, because they quote a reliable source, the IUCN, and because their search engine anticipates common synonyms in questions.

    Looking at the Wiki box to the right on the page, it shows the Mountain Lion (aka Cougar) as Least Concern. That means there’s practically no chance it will be threatened in the near future, in the most likely situations.

    Other cats, such as the Cheetah and Snow Leopard, aren’t so lucky.

    Officially, three species of mountain lions are listed as endangered by the Endangered Species Act: the Florida panther, Costa Rican puma, and the Eastern puma. The threats they face include poaching, hunting for disturbing livestock, and habitat loss.
