In commercial settings, motion sensor lights are very eco-friendly, but in a residential setting a lot of times it is just easier to have lights based on switched. In homes, most people choose when they want their lights on and off, so they will automatically turn them off when they leave the room. Motion detector lights can actually waste energy because most are on a timer to go off a certain time after there is no movement instead of turning right off. In commercial settings, there are a lot of places that are rarely used and people leave the lights on all the time. With motion sensor lights, they can turn on when people are in the room and when no one is then they can turn off and conserve energy. This decreases the amount of electricity that has to be produced and thus decreases the emissions associated with production of electricity.
