Both moths and butterflies come in a wide range of sizes, so it’s difficult to say which one is bigger. The largest butterfly in the world is the Queen Alexandra’s Birdwing Butterfly, which has a wingspan of 12 inches. The largest moth is the Atlas Moth, which also has a 12 inch wingspan. Some moths have been found with even greater wingspans, but due to their shape, they have a smaller total surface area. On the other end of the scale, the smallest butterfly has only a 1/2 inch wingspan, while the smallest moth has a wingspan of only 1/10 inch wingspan.
