Are most rivers a result of snow melting?

Most rivers begin in mountains or hilly areas and flow down hill towards larger rivers or eventually the ocean. Snowmelt and rain both feed rivers at their sources. Even mighty rivers have humble beginnings. The Amazon has only recently been traced to a mere trickle rolling through the Andes Mountains in Peru.
