For many years, most environmentalists did not think of hunters and sportsmen as being some of their own, and it seems doubtful that most hunters thought of themselves as “environmentalists” in the traditional sense. Increasingly, however, environmental groups have been doing a better job reaching out to hunters and enlisting their help in defeating policies which would damage wild areas that hunters, hikers, and urban environmentalists all enjoy. Most hunters certainly have a good understanding of the importance of the outdoors and natural landscapes, and could potentially be important allies for environmentalists. It’s to be hoped that in the years ahead, environmentalists and hunters will continue to work together more and more often.
