It does seem that that would be a good way to go. Hydroelectric dams can produce a lot of energy and even help power entire communities. However, many of the hydroelectric dams in the US were built quite a few years ago, and only 2,400 of the 80,000 dams in the US are used to generate electricity. These dams are costly and the trend is toward building smaller energy-producing dams. Countries like Canada, Norway, Brazil and the Democratic Republic of Congo have greater than 90% of their electricity produced by these dams.
