Are the mosquitoes in Africa the same type we have here in America?

There are approximately 2700 different species of mosquitos, 150 of those living in the United States. Anopheles gambiae is the major carrier of malaria in Africa, and though it occurs elsewhere in the world, it has not yet made any recorded appearances in the United States.
