Are Mopeds good for the environment?

It depends on which you buy and for what purpose, but many mopeds have a significantly better fuel economy than cars and will be better for the environment if you use them when you would otherwise use a car. 49cc mopeds of various brands can go a fantastic 80-90 miles per gallon. The trade-off is that no brand will run over 40 miles per hour, but for errands around town they’re perfectly fine. The only problem comes if someone uses a scooter for distances that they would usually just walk or bike; this, of course, uses more gas and gives off more carbon.

There are also several models of moped that have especially efficient fuel cells, hybrid engines, or are all-electric. Honda makes one of each.
