The Monarch butterfly is not currently an endangered species, but its population is threatened. Their wintering sites are becoming increasingly threatened by human activity in California and Mexico. Logging, agriculture, and human development in general pose a threat to the wintering sites to which Monarchs migrate, thereby threatening the Monarchs themselves and decreasing the amount of places in which they can aggregate.
