Are minerals renewable resources?

It really depends, technically there is only a finite amount of all naturally occurring substances. Once all the gold in the world is used, it is gone. At the same time, minerals, like gold, are made by natural processes that are always happening somewhere. As such it is possible that over a long enough time period, stocks of mineral resources will renew. Some quicker than others. Salt and coal are natural resources that are so abundant they are near infinite. Others, like the gems and precious minerals, are quite limited.

Coal is definitely not close to infinite, not at current consumption rates.
