Some are. Notably New Belgium out of Ft Collins, CO, which became the first brewery powered by wind turbines in 1998, and the beer byproducts are actually used to create biodiesel. The plant’s waste water is processed and the sludge used for fish food. California’s Sierra Nevada brewery used fuel-cell power units and recycles 33,738 tons of material, or 97.8 percent of its total waste, and uses half the water typically used by a microbrewery. Brooklyn Brewery also runs on wind power.
