Everything is potentially harmful. Used properly and judiciously, most medical scans (X-rays, MRIs, etc) are not harmful to the vast majority of people.
I agree with rigibson that “used properly and judicisously” it really is a risk/benefit proposition in that, any exposure to radiation, something invasive, or substances that are not naturally occuring in your body, is something you want to avoid unless it really is necessary. Assuming you and your doctor feel it’s necessary to have a given medical test performed, and the equipment is maintained properly and the operator is trained, it should be fine.
