Fortunately, the white marlin fish is not endangered or even listed as threatened. According to a ScienceDaily article in early 2008, NOAA’s Fisheries Service determined that the marlin does not qualify for a listing under the Endangered Species Act as it is not in danger of extinction in the near future. In fact, populations of white marlins have actually been determined to have increased since reviewed in 2002, attributed largely to efforts to decrease overfishing of the species.
