Different sub-populations of the sea otter species have different classifications under the Endangered Species Act. The “southern sea otter” is currently listed as threatened, and in Washington state, the otter is listed endangered under state law. Under Canada’s equivalent of the Endangered Species Act, the sea otter is classified as threatened.
Some species classifies as endangered in some countries are not so classified in other countries. So far marine otters are not classified as endangered in Nigeria.
