Manatees are in fact, endangered. Boats remain the greatest threats to these animals. “Boats have two bad things for manatees: its propeller, and its gasoline.” Watercraft collisions are quite common in this case. Chemical poisoning from pollution is also a big problem for the manatees. Statistics are available in the second link below.
All three species of manatees are currently classified as “vulnerable”. The South American manatee and West Indian manatee’s populations are both currently decreasing.
