While trains in general are far more energy efficient than the majority of other methods of travel, there is little difference between the energy consumed by maglev trains and other trains. However, maglev trains are slightly more efficient than other types of trains due to the lack of friction that the system causes. While the levetation negates the use of energy needed to overcome friction, most of the resistance at the speeds at which it travels are caused by wind resistance, so the energy needed to overcome that is the same in all trains. As far as environmental efficiency, maglev trains are far and above more environmentally friendly than other trains because they run on pure electricity which can be made relatively cleanly. They emit no pollution themselves, and also require less land to create a track on which to move.
