As more people are learning about the benefits of local food, farmer’s markets and local restaurants become increasingly popular. An article in the Washington Post follows restaurants, including one called American Flatbread in Washington, that have an emphasis on local foods. The article states that there has been a marked rise in the relationships between local farms and restaurants. Increased awareness thanks to popular books like “Omnivore’s Dilemma” have made people think more about where their food comes from and have shaped people’s choices when shopping for groceries and restaurants. Some of the limitations of local food are location, availability, and price, but luckily for Americans, about half the country is made up of farmland so it is relatively easy to obtain locally grown foods. This is a factor in the popularity of local restaurants.
