While Lions are primarily found outside of captivity in Africa, at one time they roamed much of Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Today Asiatic lions are an endangered species and can be found only in the Gir Forest of India.

There is also a species of Lion who roamed the great wilderness of ancient America. It was known as the American Cave Lion. It is an extinct cat known for being one of the largest subspecies of large cat to have existed. It could weigh up to 840 lbs (whoah!). It went extinct about 11,000 years ago. Lions were all over the world as they evolved into one of the world’s top predators.
