Yes, and also accessible shops and businesses with contour to the surface (nooks and crannies) and plants and niche places in front. The sidewalks don’t have to be huge, they just need to be big enough for people to walk and for people to walk around people that stop to talk. Having the nooks along the way helps facilitate this. Trees are nice, too.
Yes they are a key element to any successful street. A nice walkway should be between 6 to 10 feet in width. Including having a vegetative buffer between the roadway and the walkway to create safety and to aid in water drainage.
