Sadly, large SUVs are still a pretty popular in the US. Even though some cars have become less popular (i.e. Hummers are no longer being made) certain cars still have great popularity. Cars like the Chevrolet Suburban, Cadillac Escalade and Ford Expedition all still have a large fan base and all of these cars get less than 15 mpg in the city and less than 20mpg on the highway. While there are a lot of these cars still on the road, I suspect they will begin to dissipate as fuel efficiency standards rise (or we will start to see large alternative fuel vehicles).
