Are k-cups a complete waste of materials?

In short, yes.  Not only are the cup, filter and foil lid specifically designed for single use (which means increased materials for the cup itself and also for packaging it), but they aren’t recyclable.  Kreuger and others who manufacture k-cups are aware of the environmental conerns raised by their products, and they seem to be making an effort to improve the situation.  The my-kap, for example, is a replacement for the original foil cap, which makes it possible to refill and reuse a k-cup a few times before chucking it.  Still, it seems that overall, despite its convenience, the k-cup (like most disposable single-use products) just isn’t an environmentally frendly product.
