No. Early biologists thought hyenas must be hermaphrodites and practiced homosexuality because the female genitalia resembles the male’s. But hyenas do in fact have two distinct genders.
The word hermaphrodite comes from the son of the greek gods Hermes and Aphrodite, who was fused with a nymph so that he possessed both male and female traits.
