Yes, because of a number of factors involving cost and how much of the energy expended actually gets used to running the vehicle and making it move. Traditional gas engines are really inefficient because it only uses a small percentage of the energy available in gasoine due to the process of extracting it using so much energy. Electric motors can use almost all of the energy inherent in the engines because it takes less energy to access it. Hybrid cars tend to use the best factors of both worlds, but just the presence of the electric motors makes them overall more efficient than straight gasoline cars.
