It could be if it were mass produced, but I doubt that it has the efficiency of say an electric car. As of right now no, they would not be a viable alternative to cars simply because it would take too long to get a mass production scheme together. By the time these things were mass markets and produced we could already have efficient fuel cell cars and fully electric vehicles.
