We put up our Christmas noble fir tree and caught 6 horseflies about 5 days later, one had blood. We never had horseflies here.
Horseflies are typically found in boggy or wetlands areas. While they’re found throughout most parts of the world, Hawaii is one of the very few places they are not. It’s not impossible to come across them there, just not common (especially as many as six). Perhaps you may consider buying a few fly traps to capture them. There are various kinds available that you could probably purchase in most supermarkets or grocery stores.
