Are hatchback cars an efficient design?

The general consensus seems to be that hatchbacks are just as efficient as sedans in terms of aerodynamics and fuel efficiency. Aerodynamics and drag is much more affected by the front end of the car then the rear. If storage and useable trunk space (for a bike or furniture) is a priority for you then hatchbacks are far more efficient then sedans.
