Are gypsy moth populations still a big threat to trees?

At the moment, yes, but their numbers are expected to be reduced drastically next year. Gypsy moth populations typically fluctuate in a “boom-bust” cycle, and this coming year happens to be a “bust.” But the populations are expected to rebound afterwards, so they will continue to periodically pose a big threat to trees in the future.
