In 1975 Grizzly Bears were listed as a threatened species but only in the lower 48 states. In Alaska, where the population is thought to be in the tens of thousands, they are classified as a game animal. In 2007, the yellowstone population was removed from the threatened list. According to the Natural Resource Conservation service their status is officially listed as threatened.
