I have read that green roofs are just as sensible for residential homes as it is for larger/commercial buildings. In general, a standard roof on any given house will not be strong enough to support a green roof. Therefore, for a residential home, structural support will need to be added. You will need to find a contractor who does that kind of thing, which may be somewhat hard to find. I believe it is worth it, environmentally speaking.
Having a green roof on your home gives you all the advantages as they give to the modern office building, and would probably be quite cost effective, particularly in the long run.
I hope this helped!
