Are green house gases dangerous to breathe?

Some of the most pernicious and misleading misinformation campaigns sponsored by the fossil fuel industries have tried to convince citizens that green house gases like carbon dioxide can’t be dangerous, because we breathe it every day. It’s true that carbon dioxide is a natural part of the atmosphere, and isn’t poisonous to breathe like many more traditional pollutants. The problem with carbon dioxide is that it traps heat from the sun in our atmosphere, contributing to a warmer climate. So while it’s true that it won’t hurt you to inhale a bit of carbon dioxide, it does still hurt all of us to have too much of this gas in the atmosphere.
