Grasshoppers and locusts are of the family Locustidae, and grasshoppers that migrate have been given the classification of locust. However “true” locusts will emigrate when they have multiplied to the point that they must move on to an area that is capable of sustaining their feeding needs. This behavior in not consistent nor does it run in cycles like grasshoppers.
