Yes, there are. In general, most businesses ship their products by train if they are shipping long distance because it is cheaper than using a truck to ship in large quantities. Because of the lack of flexibiltiy often found with rail freight, it has lost alot of its freight business to road transport. The government, however is trying to encourage the use rail freight as a cost-effective mode of transport for industries.
Yes! Thanks to my marketing class knowledge, shipping goods by train is actually the cheapest mode of transportation with airplanes being the most expensive. Generally, companies use trains when the goods they are shipping are not easily perishable – such as coal and copper. There’s actually a railroad track near my house that runs through our town and we always see trains pass by with varoius shipping goods. So yeah, they are still popuarly used.
