Not particularly. While it’s true you save on wrapping paper and potential waste if the person doesn’t like the gift, gift cards means that the person will have to make one or more trips to the store, which uses up gas. Furthermore, there is also future waste to consider. Whatever the person buys with the gift card will likely end up being thrown out anyways eventually (though how far down the line varies), and may end up producing more packaging waste than simply giving them one gift.
