Are the Galapagos islands a tropical island?

The Galapagos islands are centered around the equator, therefore are within the tropical boundary lines rendering them a tropical island system. They are a protected environment for all the species living on them, but it is atop the Galapagos hot spot; where the mantle is exposed to the earths crust and breaks through forming volcanoes and islands.
