Although the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) states that citronella is not harmful to human health, the EPA has also noted that when burned, citronella oil candles can be harmful to human health. When burned, citronella candles emit tiny soot particles into the air and conditions such as asthma, lung cancer, and other lung problems can become aggravated by the soot.
